March 3rd, 2008Accountability Failure

Last weekend was fun and relaxing, but I didn’t get as much done as I wanted to. As a recap, here were the goals I set out to accomplish:

  • Finish figuring out the quilted coaster pattern.
  • Make some green stuff for St. Patrick’s Day.
  • Go through old hand-made scarves and bring the lightweight ones (that will sell in this weather) to Angelfish & Co.

I completed none of these things.

On the coaster design, I did figure out machine quilting, and on about half of the coasters, got as far as binding the edges (then ran out to JoAnn to buy some bias tape because I was too lazy to figure out how to make my own tape). They are looking good, but you can tell it is a first attempt at machine quilting.

On the St. Patrick’s Day stuff, I did start on a lightweight scarf in green yarn, putting away my selfish sweater knitting for a while. I did not bring it in the limo to Napa, though, because I thought it would be weird being the only knitter in the vehicle. Also, it was poorly lit. Also, increased alcohol consumption equals increased mistakes in knitting.

On the cleaning out of old scarves, I almost went through them last night (and again this morning), but realized that I probably couldn’t get them to the store before Thursday, so I put it off again.

I had also thought of signing up for a mini-NaBloPoMo for the month of March, but since the first of the month came and went with me not looking at a computer, I guess that idea is out the window as well. I can still try and post more often, there are just no fabulous prizes waiting at the end of the month.

February 29th, 2008Accountability

If I tell you what I’d like to get done this weekend, maybe I’ll be more likely to actually do it!

Goals for the weekend:

  • Finish figuring out the quilted coaster pattern.
  • Make some green stuff for St. Patrick’s Day.
  • Go through old hand-made scarves and bring the lightweight ones (that will sell in this weather) to Angelfish & Co.

Most of this will have to happen tomorrow after dance class, as Sunday will be spent in a limo in Napa!!! I am such a yarn dork, I am already thinking of bringing some yarn to start a scarf on the trip.

    February 19th, 2008Angelfish & Co GRAND OPENING

    Angelfish & Co.

Remember that consignment shop I told you about? Well, its grand opening celebration will be this Sunday, February 24, at 2:30. If you are interested in that sort of thing, you should check it out!

That’s the day I’ll be at Stitches West trying not to fill my entire car with yarn, but I will definitely be stopping by at some point.

As this is GDC week (in my other life as a game developer), I may or may not get enough stuff made to actually sell by the opening. As of yesterday, I have four full aprons finished, and started work on some quilted coasters. We’ll see if there are enough hours free in the week to do any more….

…Anyway. You should go! I’ll see you there :-)

    February 11th, 2008Introducing Angelfish & Co.

A friend of mine recently opened up a new craft consignment shop Angelfish & Co. (her first, congratulations!!). She is sharing retail space with a flower shop, which should help her get some initial business. I went by there yesterday to check it out, and got some forms to sign up as a consigner. It looks fairly straightforward – I bring her stuff, she shows it in the shop, then if it sells, she gives me money (minus a cut for herself). My idea is to split my merch between the shop and my own Etsy shop. I’ll have to take care with what I show in the shop, since there are other crafters selling their wares, and similar designs don’t help anyone out.

In related news, I spent yesterday sewing, and got a couple of aprons done. Next step: finding cheap supplies (fabric, notions, hardware). I think I’ll see what Ebay has to offer.

Here’s a little more info on the store, if you want to visit:

    Angelfish & Co.
558 Santa Cruz Avenue, Menlo Park

    February 8th, 2008Reboot!

Here is the first official post at FutureSarah. For simplicity’s sake, I have ported all of the posts from my last blog, but they really aren’t fitting in with the theme of this new thing. I created FutureSarah with a purpose. I hope you enjoy your visit, and will come back to read up on my adventures in crafting!
